Hospital disinfectant kill claims

Every organism PurOne and PurTabs are registered against, with the concentration in parts per million available chlorine, the required contact time and the strain tested. Taken directly from the February 2026 EPA master labels.

How to read these claims

CONCENTRATION (PPM)

Parts per million of available chlorine in the prepared solution.

Contact time

How long the surface must stay visibly wet with the solution. Not how long you spend wiping. If the surface dries before the contact time is up, the claim does not apply.

Why one organism appears twice

Many organisms carry more than one registered claim: a lower concentration with a longer contact time, or a higher concentration with a shorter one. Both are valid. Choose based on what your protocol can realistically hold in a working room.

ATCC strain

The specific reference strain used in the efficacy testing. Included because infection prevention and procurement committees ask for it.

Soil load

Some claims were tested in the presence of organic soil. Where that applies, it is stated on the row, because a claim tested with a soil load is the more realistic number for a patient environment.

PurOne and PurTabs: what is the difference?

Both are sodium dichloroisocyanurate tablets that dissolve in water. They share almost every registered claim, including Candida auris at both registered strains, Clostridioides difficile spores at both concentrations, MRSA, and the full virucidal set.

PurOne adds two categories PurTabs does not carry.

Biofilm

Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus growing in a biofilm, on hard non-porous surfaces and separately in drains by foam application. Most registered disinfectants hold no biofilm claim at all, because the testing is separate and not required.

Mold

Stachybotrys chartarum, commonly called black mold, along with Penicillium chrysogenum, Penicillium spinulosum and Aspergillus niger.

Getting to the right concentration

Concentration is set by tablet count and water volume. Work back from the contact time your protocol can realistically hold, then confirm with a chlorine test strip before the surface is treated.
