PurOne is EPA-registered as a healthcare disinfectant for hard, non-porous surfaces in critical areas potentially contaminated with Candida auris, under EPA Registration 71847-7.

Both are registered. Choose based on what your protocol can realistically hold on the surface, not on which number looks better.

Putting it into a protocol

  1. Pre-clean.

    Fecal matter and waste are thoroughly removed before disinfection. Vigorous wiping or scrubbing until all visible soil is gone.

  2. Prepare the solution.

    4306 ppm available chlorine. Tablet counts and water volumes are on the dilution chart.

  3. Apply and hold.

    Surfaces stay visibly wet for the full two minutes. If the surface dries early, the claim does not apply.

  4. Direction of work.

    Right to left or left to right on horizontal surfaces, top to bottom on vertical. Restrooms last. Do not reuse soiled cloths.

  5. Coverage.

    Manual wiping misses three-dimensional surfaces. Electrostatic application reaches IV poles, wheelchair frames and bed rails.

Published, peer-reviewed, head to head

A study published in the American Journal of Infection Control in June 2022 ran for eighteen months across two hospitals and analyzed 774 surface samples. It compared sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC / sodium troclosene), the chemistry behind PurOne, head to head against a peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide system and an electrolyzed water system.

Sodium dichloroisocyanurate produced significantly lower colony counts than either comparator, and the authors concluded it was the best sporicidal disinfectant in the study. Adding electrostatic application reduced counts further still.

Both are registered. A higher concentration with a shorter contact time suits terminal cleans where the room is empty. A lower concentration with a longer contact time may suit routine work. Choose based on what your team can hold in practice.

How do I know my team is achieving the contact time?

Audit it. Time how long a treated surface stays visibly wet in a real room, not a test bench, and check wipe saturation at the end of a room rather than the start.
